MIT Curling Officers

Executive Board 2021-2022

Bryan Wong

Bryan is a second-year undergrad studying bioengineering. He started curling in his first year and is excited to start curling non-virtually! He has been interested in curling ever since he was young, so learning that there was a team at MIT, he joined immediately!

Declan Gaylo

Declan is a third-year graduate student in MechE studying hydrodynamics. He joined the team his first year at MIT with no previous experience, and he has enjoyed learning the sport and time with his teammates on the ice. His other pastimes include sailing, skiing, and hiking.

Kevin Wang

Kevin is a fourth-year graduate student in AeroAstro. He loves curling almost as much as traveling.

Officers Emeritus

Diana Faust

Diana is a senior studying Molecular Biology and Computer Science. Diana started curling in tenth grade and has been fascinated by the sport ever since. Joining the MIT Curling Team freshman year was an obvious choice. When not curling (or studying) Diana mentors girls through MIT SWE’s WiSE program and is an avid Red Sox fan.

Leanne Galanek

Leanne is a senior studying nuclear science and engineering. She has been curling since freshman year and single-handedly founded the Alexander W. Hull fan club.

Kika Arias

Kika is an undergraduate student studying Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. She is interested in learning how we can use robotics and technology in order to improve personal wellbeing and bring more accessible treatment to those with disabilities. Kika started curling her freshman year at MIT and since then has developed a curling obsession. When she isn’t curling (which is rare), Kika spends her time doing research. She also loves to bake, do artsy crafts, and look at videos of dogs on the interwebs.

Alex Hull

Alex started curling in 2011 as a sophomore at Colgate University in upstate New York. He was lucky enough to join college curling at a time when enthusiasm for the sport was taking off, both at Colgate and throughout the northeast, and he has been addicted ever since. After graduation in 2014, Alex moved to MIT (which he obviously chose for its competitive curling program), and his dual loyalty is something that the Colgate and MIT teams constantly give him a hard time about. When not curling, Alex is a student in the Department of Chemistry, trying to use small molecule, gas phase spectroscopy to better understand reactions in the Earth's atmosphere. He is also a big fan of Red Sox baseball and (like all good CT natives) UConn basketball, and enjoys swimming and hiking when the weather warms up.

Steven Burcat

Steven likes to curl.

Kelsey Becker

Kelsey is a Comparative Media Studies and Management double major with a minor in Political Science. She fills her free time at MIT as President of the Association of Student Activities, and Chairman of the Lecture Series Committee, and work lackey of MIT Institute Events . If you don't understand what she's saying, she's probably quoting some obscure movie or vine.

Nate Bailey

Nate is a Ph.D. candidate in the Interdepartmental Program in Transportation. He is a member of the JTL Urban Mobility Lab and does research in autonomous vehicles as a new form of public transportation and the potential for new technologies in ridesharing. Nate completed his undergrad at UC Berkeley in 2014 and a Masters of Science in Transportation at MIT in 2016. After moving from the warm climate of California to the less-warm climate of Boston, Nate began curling in his first semester at MIT in Fall 2014 and quickly fell in love with the sport.

Greg Dooley

Greg is a grad student in the Physics department who tries to incrementally advance knowledge of dark matter through studying simulations of the universe. After a decade of wanting to try curling, he finally had the chance with MIT in 2011 and got hooked. Beyond curling, he likes to play just about any sport available and is thus an avid fan of the MIT intramurals.

Cody Karcher

Cody graduated from MIT with a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2017. His research involved the application of computational tools and optimization methods to early conceptual design. Cody began curling in Fall 2014 and was a member of two of the 3rd place Nationals teams. In addition to curling, Cody is a private pilot and enjoys biking. Cody is also a pasta fanatic and still curls at Broomstones Curling Club.

Phillip Nadeau

Phillip is a Canadian graduate student in Electrical Engineering at MIT. He twice competed in the USA College National Curling Championships, with a Gold Medal win for MIT in Chicago in 2011 as vice for skip Dave Tax, and Bronze in Duluth in 2013 as skip himself. While many young Canadians looked to great NHL-ers like Wayne Gretzky for inspiration, yet others, like Phillip, were aspiring curlers hoping to one day become the next Brier Champion. Growing up and moving to the USA for graduate school, he thought his curling days were surely numbered, but to his amazement, he found a strong and growing curling culture in the Boston/New England area. As curling has grown in popularity with its inclusion as an Winter Olympics sport, he enjoys sharing his passion for this life-long game with others. See you out on the ice eh!

Andrea Dubin

Andrea likes to curl.

David Tax

David is a graduate student in Electrical Engineering. He has curled for a number of years out of the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, where he (supposedly) lead teams to victory several nights a week. David skipped the MIT team at the College Curling National Championships several times, including a win in 2011. Aside from curling, like any true Canadian, his passion is hockey. David has developed into an avid Bruins fan since his arrival in Boston and can be found at most home games... that is when he's not actually out playing hockey or curling. When the ice melts, David resorts to playing pretentious games like golf and tennis.
